Saints Make Halftime Adjustments

Many were proclaiming the ‘Sky Was Falling’ when it was 17-7 at the end of the half. Here’s what I said. The 2009 Saints battled through adversity, and had two remarkable comebacks against the Dolphins & Redskins. I told people that it was ‘gut check’ time for the Saints, and to really figure out what they were made of. Aside from the final game-winning drive by Tom Brady, here’s how the 2nd half drives went for the Patriots:

Punt, Field Goal, Punt, Field Goal, Downs, Intercepted Pass

The other part of it? The Saints got the run game going. They finished the day rushing for 131 yards (Robinson – 53, Thomas – 51, Sproles – 15, Brees – 11, Collins – 1). This is one of the few times that Sean Payton loses after rushing for over 100 yards.

It looked like everything was going to fall the Saints way, as Brees found Kenny Stills for a 34-yard touchdown pass with 3:29 left, and then Keenan Lewis would intercept Brady to set up a Garrett Hartley field goal with 2:24 left.
