This defense allowed some big plays to Ryan Tannehil on the ground and to a few of the Dolphins receivers through the air. But, their run defense was superb. They forced the Dolphins to beat them through the air. The defensive line also continued its impressive play, getting four sacks on Ryan Tannehil with Cameron Jordan, Junior Galette, Martez Wilson, and Tyrunn Walker getting in on the action. They also had a total of 1o quarterback hits, with Jordan leading the way with three. The Saints defense was in Tannehil’s face for a good part of the game.
Jabari Greer had a great pick off a slant route by Tannehil. Tannehil also lost a fumble in a scramble. These helped to give the Saints momentum in the first half that they rode for the whole game. All told, the Dolphins gave up the ball four times to the Saints. The Saints defense hasn’t been perfect, and continues to show flaws, but it is exciting to watch and comes up with stops or turnovers when the they need to the most. They are starting to show that they can hold back offenses, which helps Brees to win the game without acting out of desperation.
