2. Pierre Thomas is the answer at running back

The running game for the New Orleans Saints was just embarrassing against the Cardinals. They had -6 yards rushing at halftime, which goes to show you how ineffective (if not nonexistent) is this aspect of the offense. Mark Ingram was inactive for this game, so Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles carried the load.

While the final rushing stats don’t show it, PT had a good day running the ball. Payton did not call running plays for most of the game and really throughout the first three weeks. The result is that Drew Brees has already thrown four interceptions. The running game will never carry this team, but Payton has got to start developing some faith in it if the Saints are going to be a balanced team.
