The Wide Receiver Battles

Colston was listed on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) List, which yielded way to Lance Moore & Joe Morgan as the starting WRs from the depth chart announcement on Monday. Morgan sustained an injury in Saturday’s scrimmage, but he later tweeted that he was fine. Colston was removed from the PUP List as of Monday. We also just found out Monday that Steve Breaston was added to the mix for the Saints from his workout, and at this point, I can only think he is a camp filler for now (risk/reward if you will), unless he proves otherwise. Although, Breaston has a ton of upside.

The battle surrounds the other 2-3 receivers that could make the team. Fan favorite Andy Tanner is listed behind Morgan, and hopefully everyone remembers his great preseason he was having last year, until him (and Chris Chamberlain) went down against the Jaguars. We’ll finally get to see more of Nick Toon in action (who has been making some great plays in practice), and rookie Kenny Stills. As per the depth chart, Saalim Hakim is listed on the team’s 6 WR Depth Chart.

The other receivers include some names you may or may not have heard of. There’s camp buzz about Jarred Fayson. Chris Givens & Jose Maltos were cut from the team to make room for Steve Breaston & Brent Leonard. The only other virtual unknown you may see here is Tim Toone.
