The New Orleans Saints entered training camp attempting to find a pass-rusher now that Victor Butler is out for the season with a torn ACL. The two main candidates for the starting job were Junior Galette and Martez Wilson.
Galette may have an inside track as Wilson left Saints training camp Monday with an apparent elbow injury as reported by Larry Holder of NOLA.com via Twitter:
Head coach Sean Payton would later address the media and ease concerns about Wilson’s injury:
Payton went out of his way to say the injury is not serious, but if you’ll remember, he did the same thing when Butler went down with his injury earlier in the offseason.
Wilson was splitting reps with Galette and seeing time at strong-side linebacker as well. For now his position will be manned by a group of players all fighting for playing time, not to mention a roster spot.
We’ll have the latest updates on Wilson’s injury as they happen. Stay tuned.
