New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis announced Monday that they have signed linebacker Austin Johnson and cornerback Dion Turner to reserve/future contracts.
Johnson played for the University of Tennessee and was signed as a 2012 undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens. According to NFLDraftScout.com, he was not only listed as a linebacker but a fullback as well. He played at several linebacker positions until his senior year when he was moved to the middle.
During his senior year he had 81 tackles and four interceptions. Before he had a standout senior year, Johnson was arrested in July of 2011 for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Turner is a speedy cornerback out of Southern Utah who has spent time with the Green Bay Packers and most recently the Miami Dolphins practice squad. He was clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.42 which isn’t bad for a 6’0 194 pound defensive back.
While at Southern Utah, Turner played both cornerback and safety and during his senior year recorded 69 tackles with an interception for a touchdown. He had a total of three interceptions for his college career.
