The debate about who the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers will be against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday has come to an end after being confirmed by not the head coach, but a player.

49ers safety Donte Whitner was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning and he stated that Colin Kaepernick and not Alex Smith would be the starting quarterback on Sunday against the Saints.

This was the popular vote many gave anyway after Kaepernick played like a starter instead of a backup against the Chicago Bears and proved to be somewhat of an RGIII-ish player which is not a good sign since that same quarterback had the Mercedes-Benz Superdome being filled with chants of his name.

Interim head coach Joe Vitt said that the Saints would prepare for either Kaepernick or Smith for Sunday’s matchup.  At least now they have a better idea of who they will be facing.

49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh waffled on the announcement all this week even when the story was announced by ESPN and Sports Illustrated that Kaepernick would be the starter.  If it had planned on being a secret then Whitner may get a one-on-one from his coach about letting it out of the bag.
