Predicting Sunday’s Matchup: Redskins vs. Saints

3 of 3

Players To Watch:  There’s the obvious, Brees vs. RGIII, and then the offense vs. defense matchups.  I’m very curious to see how Cameron Jordan, Brodrick Bunkley, Sedrick Ellis, and Turk McBride will fare against the Washington offensive  line.  Let’s not forget the hybrid Martez Wilson either.  He figures to see a lot of time, and may even play 3 or 4 different positions on the day.  Pierre Garcon is worth mention too, and I really like him a lot (when not playing the Saints of course).

The starting running back spots for both teams is a little cloudy too, but both teams have solid options – the Saints with their Fab-5 Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram, Chris Ivory, and Travaris Cadet.  The Redskins aren’t quite so RB heavy, but they do have 2 solid options – Evan Royster, with 2 100-yard performances under his belt already, and Roy Helu, who has 3 of his own.

My Prediction:  I think the New Orleans Saints will take this one 34-17.  Drew Brees should have at least 3 TD passes, and the Saints running game will spell him when it’s necessary to keep Washington’s defense honest.  RGIII should have a good game early on as the Saints continue to work on their defensive kinks, but I think the combination of Dome noise and pressure by the D should rattle him and his teammates enough to make even 17 points difficult to earn.
