The New Orleans Saints have selected Samford safety Corey White with the 162 pick of the fifth round.

White had a very good Pro Day showing where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds, had 41.5 vertical jump and a 10.6 broad jump.  White is the first Samford player to be able to attend the NFL Combine as well.

White seems to be a physical tackler and his bread and butter seems to be in run support.  He also played cornerback, but according to scouting grades he’s more suited to play at the strong safety position.

For his college career, White has totaled seven interceptions and had one of his best years this past season with four interceptions, 58 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a blocked kick.

White will most likely become a special teams contributor, but scouts have said that he is a dedicated to hard work and is very tough.
