New Orleans Saints face uphill battle in free agency

Mays ended up re-signing back with the Broncos and word is now that they are trying to retain the services of Bunkley.  Denver has become active in free agency again after recently signing quarterback Peyton Manning.

Speaking of active, reports came in this afternoon that Denver might also be trying to take another Saints free agent,  because they have a visit lined up with cornerback Tracy Porter this week.

One big fish that the Saints are desperate to land is Atlanta Falcons free agent linebacker Curtis Lofton.  Lofton could be the ultimate prize for the Saints if they can work out a deal for him since he would be an instant upgrade for the linebacker corps.

But another kink in the plan is money that he may want.  Bobby Hebert of  WWL 870 AM Sports stated that the Philadelphia Eagles wanted to sign Lofton but his asking price was too much.  Hebert said Lofton reportedly wants $9 million a year to sign.

If that report is accurate, then the Saints would need a flat out miracle to sign Lofton.  Even worse, the Buccaneers are said to be keeping close tabs on Lofton and could easily sign him with their cap space available.
