Support from fans will be crucial for New Orleans Saints in the upcoming season

The last few months have not been kind to faithful members of Who Dat Nation and from what it looks like, it’s going to get worse before it gets better. That is why New Orleans Saints fans will be a big part of how the team makes it through current and future tribulations.
When the Saints lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs this past season, fans were heartbroken thinking about how close they came to not only hosting another NFC Championship, but going to their second Super Bowl in two years.
As the pieces were picked up from that, the looming cloud of having to try to sign high-valued free agents like quarterback Drew Brees, guard Carl Nicks, and wide receiver Marques Colston looked to rain on the parade as well with the limited cap space available.
Brees assured everyone that he would work his contract to help keep the necessary players to work towards another championship. Still daunting was that it looked like Nicks still wanted to be paid accordingly and Colston would be the odd man out.
As Brees and the Saints general manager Mickey Loomis worked on the contract, fans began to slowly come to terms that Brees would sign his contract, Nicks would have the franchise tag applied, and Colston would probably test free agency and possibly leave the team.
Reports surfaced in the middle of this past week that the Saints and Brees were still $5 million apart on the first three years of his contract. Tension mounted again when NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora reported that the Saints would use the franchise tag on Brees.
