Since arriving in New Orleans, Vilma has been the unquestioned leader of the defense and linebacking corp.  He was an every down player and never left the field.  The past two seasons have been different.

Vilma was hampered last season with knee injuries but continued to play.  It was evident at times that he was playing with an injury and it slowed him down.

This season, he missed four games after having a secretive procedure done on his knee.  Vilma operated as best he could but it looked like he had lost a step.

With the offseason to heal, Vilma is already preparing for next season.  Spagnuolo has been officially announced as the new defensive coordinator and started his preparations as well.  For sure, those preparations will include Vilma as well as Dunbar.

Although Vilma will most likely return, the Saints will have to think of his eventual replacement.  Dunbar is high on this list of candidates to take over the position upon Vilma’s departure.
