Which New Orleans Saints defensive players will excel under Spagnuolo?

Galette is a hybrid defensive end who could also be asked to play linebacker if called upon.  His speed and high motor allowed him to register 4.5 sacks this season.  His passion to improve and contribute will serve him well under Spagnuolo.

Linebacker Martez Wilson-  although Wilson is listed as a linebacker, I’m going to make the prediction that he might be asked to play more defensive end this upcoming season.

Wilson’s rookie season showed off his speed(the fastest of all linebackers at the 2011 NFL Combine) and the trust coaches put in him to make plays.  He was able to chase down the elusive Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and sack him in the final game of the season.

Like Galette, who only outweighs Wilson by eight pounds, Wilson is a hybrid project that could play multiple roles.  Spagnuolo will need fast, athletic pass rushers on the front four and Wilson could fill that slot nicely and see an excellent second year.

With the introduction of the new defense  forthcoming, the excitement will be to see not only a needed change, but to watch the veteran players solidify their careers and the maturation of young players that will one day lead the franchise into the future.
