What’s next for the New Orleans Saints?

4 of 4

This upcoming NFL Draft will be important for the Saints since they don’t pick until the second round.  Their first pick was forfeited to the New England Patriots to be able to select RB Mark Ingram last year.  Their pick in the second round won’t come until late in the round either.

We missed out on LB/DE hybrid Brooks Reed who went to the Houston Texans and he had a major impact.  I was hoping we could get him until the Texans nabbed him.  Hopefully the Saints will go this route since we are in need of this type of player like a Reed.  Current Saints LB/DE hybrid Martez Wilson was a good start.

The Saints could also nab some free agents who are set to hit the market.  CB Brent Grimes, CB Carlos Rogers, DE Robert Mathis, and DE Cliff Avril are just some of the names that the Saints should at least take a look at to help restock the defense.

Once again, it will depend on the coaching staff changes as to what direction they will go in towards the draft or free agency.  No matter who the Defensive Coordinator may be, talk is the Saints may be going to a 3-4 defensive scheme instead of the old 4-3 which will be a welcome change.

So Who Dat’s, take heart.  One big positive is that since there is no lockout this year, rebuilding for the next season will begin soon.  The NFL Combine begins on February 22 and the NFL Draft begins on April 26.  Training camp will begin before you know it, as well as the season.  Then the march to a Two Dat will begin again.  Ain’t it grand Who Dat Nation?
