Protecting the ball key to New Orleans Saints success

Saints QB Drew Brees has thrown 11 interceptions in the first 9 games this season, matching his season totals for 2009, the year the Saints won their first Superbowl.

In fact you can predict how the Saints season will go by the number of interceptions that Brees throws.

In 2006, his first season in New Orleans, Brees led the Saints all the way to the NFC Championship game while only throwing 11 interceptions on the year.

The following two seasons the former San Diego Charger finished with interception totals of 18 in 2007 and 17 in 2008.

The Saints failed to make a playoff appearance in either season.

Brees, responded in 2009 with one of the greatest seasons by any NFL QB, leading the Saints to a victory over Peyton Manning in Superbowl XLIV.

Brees once again finished the season with just 11 int’s.

Last season, the Saints struggled for much of the season with turnovers, and were defeated by the SeaHawks in the NFC wild card game.

Brees had 22 int’s on the year.

Brees is New Orleans’ prodigal son and you would be hard pressed to find a single saints fan that could honestly say that Brees doesn’t give the Saints their best chance at winning, but it’s like the old adage says: “If you live by the gun, you die by the gun”.

Nothing could be truer for Brees and Saints Fans.
