New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton Given Contract Extension

Everyone in Who Dat Nation can sleep a little easier tonight and put those dreaded “Payton to Dallas” rumors to bed as well after a recent press release by the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints have stated that they have extended Head Coach Sean Payton’s contract through the 2015 season.  Terms were not available at this time.

Owner Tom Benson said that, “Our goal is to continue to build a TRADITION of winning here in New Orleans and Sean represents that tradition.”  Now that this is taken care of, the Saints will likely focus on doing the same for QB Drew Brees.

Many thought that Brees would be taken care of first.  However, he has been very patient and stated that the priority right now is getting the Saints another championship.  It will really help the process now that he’s certain Payton will stay.

Fear set in at the beginning of the year when Payton moved his family to Dallas and rumors began to circulate that he would possibly be courted by the Dallas Cowboys for a position as Head Coach.

Now we can be assured of four more years of great coaching and four more years of hearing, “That would be accurate.”
