Saints’ Schedule Primes Them for a Playoff Run

The Saints’ home schedule features Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis and the New York Giants.

Their away schedule includes games at Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Green Bay, Minnesota, Jacksonville, Tennessee and St. Louis.

With that being said, the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers seem to be the only away threat for the Saints.

Despite an overall 2010 opponents’ record of 130-126, most of New Orleans’ tough opponents will be played in the Superdome.

New Orleans’ biggest challenge lies within the division. Atlanta and Tampa Bay, both 10-plus win teams, each left New Orleans with a win. However, New Orleans left their place with a win, too. So, home field between the NFC South rivals really does not pose as an advantage.

Four of the Saints’ 2011 opponents made a postseason appearance last season. Atlanta, Chicago and Indianapolis were division winners and Green Bay was a wild card in 2010.

While winning games is not easy in the NFL, the strength of schedule, and the “Super Bowl champion target” taken off their back should catapult the Saints into the playoffs in 2012 and prime them for a run at a second Lombardi trophy.
