Saints Waive Chase Daniel To Free Roster Spot For Second Kicker Garrett Hartley
Garrett Hartley is going to get a second chance with the Saints it appears after serving his four game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance policy by testing positive for Adderall.
Hartley’s return to the team was not a gurantee after kicker John Carney was brought back to fill in during the suspension, Carney has performed very well through the first four games.
Hartley didn’t do himself any favors either by performing inadequately during the Saints pre-season games, missing a few chip shot field goals.
However Payton maintained all along the he planned to keep both kicker’s on the roster, how he planned to do that has remained a question until now.
To make room for Hartley the team released rookie QB Chase Daniel from the active roster.
Daniel, the former star QB of Mizzou, was acquired by the Saints after his release from the Redskins and has been compared favorably to Pro-Bowl quarterback Drew Brees.
It was a bit of a surprise that the team activated Daniel off the practice squad to the active roster but the general consensus was another team was looking to pluck Daniel from the Saints for themselves.
For now it seems the team is fine with potentially losing Daniel to another team as long as they have their kickers secure, although Daniel could clear waivers and potentially land back on the practice squad.
