Drew Brees is my MVP!

After the 2008 season, Peyton Manning was voted the NFL’s MVP.  Although he did have a good year, I think this was kind of a throw away pick. Another guy that had a great season leading his team was Drew Brees.  I definately think Brees had a more impressive season than Manning. Not only did Brees have more passing yards (5,069 compared to 4,002) and touchdowns (34 compared to 27) but, his passer rating was better (95 compared to 96.2). Now I know the award is for the most Valuable player and you can’t measure value with statistics but, I think you have to put a lot of weight on a players stats. It’s the only tangible thing that tells fans which players are performing better than other players. I also know that both quarterbacks had to deal with much hardship throughout the season but, I also believe that Brees endured much more and had to carry his team way more the Peyton Manning. At the start of the season Brees had to overcome his two top recievers beng injured, his electric running back being injured, and an average-at-best defense. Brees was more valuable than Manning. If Brees had gotten injured at the beginning of the season, the Saints would’ve only won four games tops. Not only did he overcome the offenses difficulties but, he kept his team in the playoff hunt. He even made players around him into superstars like Lance Moore. If only Brees got a couple more yards passing to break Dan Marino’s record he would have another accolade to justify his MVP status.  As far as value goes, I think Brees was way more valuable than Manning, Drew Brees is my MVP!
