It looks like former Saints DL Anthony Hargrove finally will get to play football again. This time he won’t be wearing his Packers uniform, his Seahawks uniform or even the familiar black and gold Saints uniform; he’ll be wearing a Dallas Cowboys uniform when he faces us on the field. Hargrove has been busy this offseason, and most of the time he’s spent on turf it was at Jerry Jone’s palace.

The Cowboys are signing Anthony Hargrove, who was suspended for his alleged role in the alleged Saints bounty program. Glad to see him back

After all the trouble Hargrove went through with injuries compounded by BountyGate it will be good to see him back on the field again. I wish him well and hope he stays healthy this season. I think it’s about time Hargrove got a break.

The Saints decided to add another defensive lineman with their sixth round pick and selected Rufus Johnson from Tarleton State University. Johnson doesn’t necessarily pop off the tape, but he has the ability to be a disruptive player in the NFL with some development.

Standing at six-foot-five and 272 pounds, Johnson definitely has the size to command the attention of NFL offensive linemen. He ran a 4.75 40-yard dash and a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump.

Looking at some tape of him, its very clear that Johnson has the explosion off the line that you look for from a defensive linemen. He doesn’t always bite on the play-action and makes an effort to diagnose what is going on before committing to the play.

He finished with 10 sacks in his senior season at Tarleton State. I would imagine that Johnson will be a project player much like Junior Galette was when he came into the league.

Johnson played in a 4-3 defensive scheme in college and will most likely switch between outside linebacker and defensive end in Rob Ryan’s 3-4 defense. The most important part of this selection is that it gives the Saints good depth at linebacker.

The trade that many expected to happen has happened. Running back Chris Ivory has been traded to the New York Jets.

Ivory saw limited carries for the past two years behind running backs Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, and recently Mark Ingram. Despite  rushing for only 217 yards and two touchdowns, Ivory showed the team he has improved his patience carrying the ball and his ball security.

The primary focus for the Saints in bolstering their sagging defense in the draft and the interest in recent weeks by the New York Jets made it an easy decision to complete the trade and receive another fourth-round pick.

The Saints then traded two fourth-round picks for another third-round pick from the Miami Dolphins. They used the third-round pick to acquire Georgia defensive tackle John Jenkins.

The Ivory trade shows that the New Orleans Saints have complete faith in Mark Ingram as their power running back. Ivory was rarely used as a relief back and wasn’t even activated on game day most of the season. Payton & Co. must have realized this and decided the trade was best for the back and the Saints.

The New York Jets acquired a good back that has not yet hit his potential and the New Orleans Saints acquired another defensive tackle to bolster their defensive line. You can’t ask for a more tactical move from Mickey Loomis and the New Orleans Saints staff.
