The New Orleans Saints are getting close to becoming a habitual loser. Those are strong words, but they are the truth. The evidence is starting to outweigh the winning ways of the Sean Payton/Drew Brees era. A goal of 10-6 is realistic and attainable. The leash has been stretched. There’s simply no more leeway.

This is it. The sense of urgency should be evident from the front office to the football field. There is no TRY this year. First and foremost, wins and losses are the only stat that will matter this upcoming year. The Black and Gold will have some home cooking during training camp. That should help. Fans are ready. Similarly, players must be tired of going in front of the camera with more questions than answers.

“Winning isn’t everything, its the only thing”- Vince Lombardi

Fans are tired of hearing what went wrong. This season will test the guts of everyone involved. The Black and Gold faithful will be prepared to win. Incidentally, they’ll be ready this year. The fans will show up to support the Saints. The ONE obstacle that must be addressed more than offense, defense, or special teams. It’s the one invisible stat that won’t show up in the box score on Monday.

Above all, the fourth quarter play will make or break this upcoming season. Furthermore, the last five minutes will be the difference between 10-6 and 7-9. Morten Andersen was known as “clutch” for his plethora of game winning kicks when the game was on the line. Time after time he came through. Andersen is going into the NFL Hall of Fame in this year’s class.

How will history judge the Saints in 2017? Can the Saints at least start the winning in 2017?

For once, it would be nice to hear some certainty from anyone. Give the fans assurance that there is no way 7-9 will occur in 2017. Coaches aren’t big on making bold statements like that. On the other hand, the time has come for a leader on the defensive end to take a bigger leadership role. The young guys are looking for someone to draw strength from and motivation.
