Staying or Going? Keenan Lewis Rumors swirl around Saints

The news keeps on coming — the New Orleans Saints are reportedly shopping star cornerback Keenan Lewis, according to Jason La Canfora, an NFL insider for CBS Sports.  But wait, Ian Rapaport of NFL.com says otherwise.

Following the news of the Jimmy Graham trade to the Seattle Seahawks, Lewis voiced his opinion about the recent activity surrounding the organization — players are coming and going fast, very fast.

Lewis, who is quite active on the picture-sharing social media network Instagram, posted a picture of some text he apparently put together that says “I think it’s time for me to take my talent somewhere else.  New Orleans it has been good.” In the comment section below, Keenan Lewis stated “I only want fairness.  I would love to stay and play for my hometown but I only want to be treated fairly.

The next day he took his posts down to add “I want to be here, probably more than any Saints player ever.” In the comment section beneath, he wrote “Listen before I get judged because if you was me, you would be mad how I’m getting treated…..”  Following that post came another — “I just want to know.  I would be here and I’m wrong smh. My family want to know not guess….”

Trust me, Keenan, we want to want to know as well.  Lewis has arguably been the Saints most consistent defensive players and one of the top man-to-man coverage corners in the NFL over the past two years. Lewis also shared a picture of himself and New Orleans’ newly acquired corner Brandon Browner.  The two playing together would have a chance to be one of the league’s top cornerback tandem.

With the way things are looking at the moment during this apparent ‘fire sale’ Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis have set up, a Lewis trade would not be too surprising.  However, he is the most important piece to the defensive puzzle.  The contract restructure makes sense and seems more likely, but be sure to stay tuned as the story develops.
