I love the return of football. Though we aren’t exactly thrilled about injuries, it’s part of the game, and we’ll have to work through them. The black and gold have given us their inaugural injury report for Sunday’s Week One matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.
Kenny Stills, WR (Quad)
DID NOT PRACTICE (DNP)
Erik Lorig, FB (Ankle)
Marcus Ball, S (Hamstring)
In an injury related bit of news, the New Orleans Saints also placed rookie linebacker Khairi Fortt, who was a fourth round selection (#126 overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. Fortt was disappointed in the move, but the injured reserve with designated to return status will put Fortt coming back in Week 9, when the Saints take on the Carolina Panthers on the road during a short week.
We’ve been concerned about Kenny Stills ever since training camp, as he suffered an injury during practice in the early stages. Stills would return and be forced out of action early against the Indianapolis Colts in the third preseason game. Currently, Stills is the team’s second wide receiver on the depth chart.
We also have to be somewhat encouraged at the fact we’ve finally heard something on the status of fullback Erik Lorig, although it’s not exactly good news. Second year fullback, Austin Johnson, looks to handle the duties in Week One, and has done an ample job of showing us that he’s more than capable.
Stay tuned for more injury updates as we draw closer to the game with Atlanta!
