New Orleans Saints Reward Junior Galette With Contract Extension

Yesterday, there were rumors that Junior Galette had signed a 4-year contract extension. However, Galette and his agent were quick to squelch those rumors, saying that nothing was official. The keyword there: official. Today, the news was announced.

Galette was recently ranked #7 on my Top 15 New Orleans Saints players list. Things have been going his way, as he was also recently named a co-captain of the Saints’ defense this year. Akiem Hicks said it best in regards to Galette, saying that he’s one of the most underrated pass-rushers in the league. As many recall, Galette finished sixth in the league in sacks last year, just a half sack short of team-mate Cam Jordan.

From various sources, Galette knew about this move last night, but obviously had to contain his excitement.

Here’s my outlook for Galette this year:

Junior Galette can only hope to capitalize on his production from a season ago. This is actually a contract year for Galette, so you can fully expect him to come with everything he has and then some. Galette certainly has a huge change to produce double-digit sacks again, and I would be completely shocked if we see him snubbed from the Pro Bowl when he gets those sacks.

The 4-year extension takes Galette through 2019, and is worth $41.5 million. His contract is now a 6-year, $45.3 million deal with $23 million guaranteed.
