“I feel good“. That’s how Jairus Byrd ended his latest interview session with the media that you can find on neworleanssaints.com.
Yesterday the Saints practiced at Mandeville High, with over 6000 screaming fans attending the event. Jairus Byrd, who was just cleared to take part in team drills, immediately showed his skills with two interceptions. Here’s one of them, when Luke McCown got picked off:
Despite the injury Byrd said he’s mentally prepared to take the field thanks to the coaching staff and his teammates, with whom he spent a lot of time both on the field (well, the sideline actually) and in the film room.
About his rehabilitation process Byrd said:
…the hardest thing was having patience, you know. You see everything moving ahead: guys practicing, conditioning, hitting … but that’s part of the journey.
And when asked directly “Do you expect to play this week?” he simply, confidently answered “I do, yeah.”
It will be a pleasure for all Saints supporters to finally see him on the field in the third and most important preseason game. Byrd was a key acquisition during the offseason and everybody (himself included) is expecting a lot from him. For a team that desperately needs to improve its turnover ratio Byrd started off on the right foot! This is just the beginning, folks.
