According to reports, New Orleans Saints‘ nose tackle John Jenkins will be out until training camp following surgery on a torn pectoral muscle. This is a minor setback for the second-year man out of the University of Georgia, as he was looking to battle his way into more playing time with fellow defensive lineman Brodrick Bunkley.
Jenkins, who has not yet participated in any organized team activity sat out again on Tuesday and will likely miss 6-7 weeks before camp kicks off at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. He played in all 16 games last year serving as Bunkley’s backup and combined for 21 tackles. He has shown flashes of his ability to pressure and disrupt quarterbacks and may have a bright future in the Big Easy.
Coach Sean Payton has yet to confirm the reports, but it looks like that is the case for the former SEC talent. It’s unfortunate for Jenkins and the Saints; this is a great time to bond and form a chemistry with new teammates. Luckily, this injury happened now and not during the regular season. Jenkins should be healthy and ready to go at the end of July.
