The New Orleans Saints addressed many needs through the 2014 draft. However, as customary after the draft, there are a host of undrafted rookie free agents that are brought in to fill the team’s 90-man roster. Today, we highlight Spencer Hadley, an outside linebacker from BYU.
You might have heard about Spencer Hadley before, when he was suspended five games from Brigham Young University over the school’s honor code on September 17th. The suspension would eventually be lifted early on October 11th.
As per NFL Draft Scout, Hadley is ranked #47 out of 182 outside linebackers. Hadley stands at 6’1″, and weighs in at 228 pounds. He’d play four seasons with the Cougars (2008, 2011-2013). Hadley’s season would be cut short in 2013 due to a season-ending knee injury (MCL) against Wisconsin.
Hadley brings a physical and aggressive style to the Saints, and he reminds me a lot of Chase Thomas, who went undrafted last year. Thomas found a home with the Saints, and wowed Rob Ryan early. Sadly, Thomas didn’t make it. Hadley looks to be a player that is in that same boat, but has a chance to crack the practice squad, especially given the Saints uncertainty at outside linebacker.
