Recent mock drafts have Shazier being selected no earlier that the 20th pick in the first draft and no later than the second round in the draft. He should be available for the Saints at the 27th pick. Some scouts think that his skill set and his incredible speed will make his stock rise on many draft boards between now and the NFL Draft.
Shazier is at his best when he is using his speed to rush the quarterback. He was useful in coverage for Ohio State but he will need to improve at the next level. The fact that he is a scheme-diverse linebacker should get the Saints attention. He’s more of a blitzer than a pass rusher and Rob Ryan can use him to attack different spots along the offensive front. He is the final piece that the Saints defense needs to be elite this season.
