Top NFC South Free Agent Signings
The NFC South remains in constant motion. Seemingly every year, a new team rises from the ashes to power over the other three teams, while even the most mighty eventually tumble. The Atlanta Falcons dropped from legit Super Bowl contenders to the depths of a 4-12 season last year, while the Carolina Panthers ascended to serious playoff contenders and division winners thanks to a 12-4 finish in 2013.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only team in the NFC South that really hasn’t had the luxury of enjoying much time at the top in recent years, but even they could be on their way back up. The addition of head coach Lovie Smith and quarterback Josh McCown offer up some optimism, and if the Bucs can up their level of play in 2014, it really could be a four-way battle for first place in suddenly one of the NFL’s deepest divisions.
However, fans of NFC South teams are watching every single move trying to figure out who is in the lead and who will actually end the season on top. The New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers are naturally still the front-runners after finishing in the top two spots and making the playoffs last year, but it’s beginning to look like they won’t be alone.
With the 2014 NFL Draft looming in May, let’s get a better idea of who is ahead of the pack by reflecting on all the moves in free agency inside the division, ranking the top signings.
