I guess we spoke too soon.
As per ESPN Dallas, Todd Archer broke the story stating the both parties called the deal off as per sources.
Herring had agreed to a one-year deal Thursday but both sides agreed to walk away, which keeps Herring as a free agent. Because Herring never signed the deal, the team never made an announcement. A source said it was not related to a failed physical.
It’s hard to imagine why a deal would fall through between the two parties, as Herring could have made a decent fit in the Dallas Cowboys organization. We can only speculate, but perhaps it has something to do with the Cowboys gauging interest in improving their defensive line with former Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers and defensive tackle Henry Melton.
With the Cowboys parting ways with their star pass rusher Demarcus Ware, they’re definitely hurting for pass rushers in Rod Marinelli’s defense.
Will Herring will return to being an unrestricted free agent.
