New Orleans Saints unrestricted free agent, Will Herring, is heading to the Dallas Cowboys. Herring agreed to a one-year contract with the Cowboys, as per his Twitter.
Herring, who will turn 31 in August, served as a backup inside linebacker, and mainly saw action on special teams during his three-year tenure with the team. He also served as the captain of the special teams unit in 2013.
I wish my former teammates and the Saints best of luck! Thanks for the last 3 years!! Blessed to be playing in the Big D this year and to be a part of Cowboys organization! -Will Herring via Twitter
Herring becomes the third player to leave the team (Malcolm Jenkins, Darren Sproles), and will likely not be the last. He will join a familiar face in Dallas, as former Saints linebacker Martez Wilson is currently contracted on the team through the 2014 season.
Herring played in all sixteen games for the Saints in 2012 and 2013, and eleven games in 2011. His career totals with the team were 29 tackles, 2 interceptions, a forced fumble, and 2 passes defended.
His role will likely be similar to what he did with the Saints, and looks to help a very depleted Cowboys defense.
