Saints 2014 Draft Needs
The New Orleans Saints powered back in 2013 with offensive guru and head coach Sean Payton back in the saddle, but were ultimately snuffed out of the playoffs by the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
That’s not the worst fate in the world, and with the Saints going 12-4 in Payton’s first year back, there’s hope for the Saints to be even better in 2014. After all, defensive coordinator Rob Ryan proved to be a quality hire, and the Saints’ new 3-4 defense was aggressive and consistent until injuries held them back down the stretch.
Overall, there was a lot to like in 2013, and the Saints aren’t a team with a ton of holes heading into next season. They can still sling in on offense and hang with just about anyone with Drew Brees leading the show, but they need to continue to get better on the other side of the ball in order to take that next step.
Realistically, that next step involves the Saints remaining dominant throughout the season and securing home field advantage. With a better defense, that’s entirely possible. However, it’s not 100% about the defense. Let’s check out all the areas New Orleans can improve upon as we look ahead to the 2014 off-season.
