The New Orleans Saints are in the thick of a Super Bowl hunt, but it is never too early to take a look at how the team may upgrade when the 2014 NFL draft rolls around.
Our partner site, NFL Mocks, has released its latest mock — with interesting results for the Saints. Sayre Bedinger says the Saints will look to upgrade on the defensive side of the football with BYU outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy:
The Saints add a guy who can do it all defensively here. Van Noy has great athletic ability, can rush the passer, and can make plays on the ball. He’d be a great pickup for them.
We at Who Dish have been strong advocates of adding another linebacker for quite some time. Names like Victor Butler line the roster, but coordinator Rob Ryan is going to need more of his own guys to better build his scheme.
Here is what CBS Sports’ draft guru Rob Rang has to say about Van Noy:
Strengths: Quick, instinctive linebacker with excellent reaction skills. Athletic enough in coverage, showing balance and change of direction. He locates the football quickly and provides good effort in pursuit.
Weaknesses: He is a bit slow to ‘shoot his gun’ when ballcarriers are running at him and relies too much on a simple bull-rush when coming off the edge.
