In case you missed it, the NFL announced yesterday that they would be flexing the Week 14 matchup between the Panthers & Saints. The game was scheduled to be on Fox for a Noon showing, but instead will be on the Prime Time Stage on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. This move will boot the Falcons-Packers matchup, which was the original game scheduled.
The Panthers came from behind yesterday to win against the Dolphins 20-16, which means they stay on the Saints heels at 8-3. They own the #5 seed in the NFC currently, and host the Bucs in Week 13.
As for the Saints, we are all aware what is ahead of us, which is a showdown with the NFC’s conference leading & best record team, the Seattle Seahawks (10-1). The move is somewhat a blessing in disguise if you want to look at it, as the Saints play on that Monday Night, and have a lot of travel after that game.
There’s really no mystery here, as this game could potentially decide the NFC South, even with it being so early. The Panthers are 2-0 in the NFC South, and the Saints are 3-0.
Carolina leads the series currently 19-17, and the last 10 meetings have been split 5-5. The Saints are winners of four out of the last six, but were swept by the Panthers last season.
One thing is certain, the Panthers or Saints will have to be a Wild Card.
