Well, that was quick. A short week means getting this to you faster!
Welcome back to another edition of Keys to the Game!
As always, we start with some weekly power rankings for the Black & Gold:
- ESPN: #2 (Previous Week: #4) +2
- NFL.com: #4 (Previous Week: #5) +1
- CBS Sports: #4 (Previous Week: #5) +1
- Fox Sports: #4 (Previous Week: #7) +3
So, the Saints are the unanimous #4, behind the Seahawks, Broncos, and Chiefs. As I’ve said previously, these mean about as much as fantasy projections. Besides, just think if the Saints would have lost Sunday.
Speaking of Sunday, it seems like it was just….wait, it was! Several short days ago, the Saints met the 49ers, but finished with a much different result than their previous two outings. Powered by a strong defensive showing, and Garrett Hartley’s leg, the Saints were able to win 23-20, to improve to 8-2.
This week, the Saints take on their most hated rival, the Atlanta Falcons. Just over two months ago, we started the season against them, and we had this feeling that it would set the tempo for the season. Well, we were right. The Saints held on to win 23-17, which finished with a huge goal line stand, as Roman Harper tipped a pass intended for Tony Gonzalez, and ended up intercepting it. Sean Payton’s return was a good one.
Since then, can we say a tale of two completely different directions? The Saints have bested their previous season record of 7-9 already, and the Falcons are nowhere near the 13-3 record from a year ago.
