Well, the Jay Richardson experiment is over, at least for now.
Richardson was released this evening, after the team announced that they signed Defensive End Keyunta Dawson. Dawson was with the Titans, but was released on Saturday.
Jay Richardson’s snaps this season decreased game by game, after the team resigned him in Week 2 for the Tampa Bay game. Richardson played 11 defensive snaps against the Bucs, 4 defensive snaps against the Cardinals, and only special teams plays against the Dolphins & Bears.
Dawson, who is from Shreveport, was a 7th round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played four years with the Texas Tech Raiders, and he was selected by the Colts at pick number 242. Dawson would spend four seasons with the Colts, and then sign/start with the Titans for the 2011 season. He was later released, signed, and then released in less than a 3 month stretch. He would be re-signed once again by the Titans in 2012, and after only appearing in three games, Dawson was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. On March 7, 2013, Dawson signed a 1-year contract with the Titans.
Richardson’s release was met with nothing but good wishes & support from Saints fans.
Thanks for all the Luv #WhoDatNation ! I’m sure our paths will cross again.

The move does make sense, as the Saints defensive line are having major health issues. As for the impact of Dawson? It remains to be seen. He has 117 career tackles, 1 sack, and 2 pass defenses. He only missed 5 games as a Colt during 2007-2010, but has appeared in only 7 games since then.
