If the New Orleans Saints are going to remain undefeated after an encounter with the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football this week, Rob Ryan and Co. will have to take advantage of Miami’s weakness—protecting quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Tannehill has been sacked a ridiculous league-leading 14 times through three games and Saints players are well aware of that fact, as documented by Larry Holder of NOLA.com:
“We’re definitely chomping, don’t get it switched,” Galette said. “We’re definitely chomping at the bit where we say, ‘Hey this guys been (hit).’ Just like last week (against the Cardinals’ Carson Palmer). We need to put this guy on his back.
“You definitely have to look at that (Tannehill’s sack totals), but you also look at it as another team and an offensive line that you want to do your best to beat with the most ways that you can with the group of guys that we have,” defensive lineman Akiem Hicks said. “You definitely can’t look too far into the stats because they have different personnel and run a different system than we do.
The Saints must take advantage, but it’s important to remember it has not helped other teams. Despite how many times Tannehill is getting hit, the Dolphins are undefeated just like the Saints.
While the new-look defense led by Junior Galette and others has done a great job of pressuring quarterbacks, it’s going to take a full effort to beat the Dolphins. If the Saints can apply pressure and remain sound in other defensive areas, the Saints should have no issues.
