Special Teams

‘Just keep doing what you’re doing Garrett Hartley’, said every Saints fan everywhere. That’s really all that we can hope for. Hartley was called upon 3 times last week, and was good from all distances (48, 31, 22). The Bucs defense may tighten more as the Saints cross the 50, so Hartley may be called upon a few times Sunday.

As I stated previously, you won’t hear me really say anything about Morstead. The less we see of him, the better (unless it’s on kickoffs, of course).

As for the return game, Darren Sproles fielded 4 punts last week, and 1 kickoff that went for 23 yards. He’s due to break one, and the Saints haven’t had a special teams return since Sproles did it against the Packers to open the 2011 season (ironically, his debut as a Saint). Touchbacks are way more common these days, but if he gets his chance, you know he will make it count.

The only thing to keep an eye out for in regards to the Special Teams? There’s a strong chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.
