The New Orleans Saints are approaching their contest with the Atlanta Falcons to kick off the 2013 NFL season, but first let’s take a look at the Saints news, rumors and links fans should be paying attention to right now.

Saints land at No. 13 in ESPN power rankings

Per Pat Yasinskas:

You can do the math, but 12 teams make the playoffs. It seems our voters view the Saints as being a team right on the cusp of a playoff team.

I think that’s a pretty fair assessment for a team that should have a very good offense, but still has major concerns about its defense.

For the record, I had the Saints as a playoff team in my season prediction. I have the Saints going 9-7 and earning a wild-card spot.

NOLA.com predicts 9-7 for 2013

Per Peter Finney:

It just means he may have a football team good enough to make the playoffs. I’m predicting it will be good enough to finish the regular season 9-7, better than the 7-9 finish a year ago when Payton was watching from the sideline, courtesy of Bountygate.

Robert Meachem is happy to be back “home”

Per NOLA.com’s Mike Triplett:

“That’s life. You hear things. But you take a negative and you turn it into a positive,” said Meachem, who signed a one-year deal to return to the Saints on Tuesday. “That’s my mission now. To go out there and show the gifts that I was blessed with. Put my head down and just relax and go play football.”

The relief in Meachem’s voice was evident Tuesday as he returned to the place where he began his NFL career, just days after being released by the Chargers.

“It feels good. I got a job,” Meachem said.

But more than that, he added quickly, “It feels good to be home.”
