The New Orleans Saints have been on a role this preseason, especially after downing the Houston Texans in Week 3, but the injuries keep piling up.
As we have already covered, the Saints traded for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Parys Haralson to make up for the loss of Will Smith. Outside of that, here are the news, rumors and links Saints fans need to see.
Per NOLA.com’s Mike Triplett:
As I wrote earlier, the best thing that can happen for the Saints in the wake of all this bad injury news is that young linebackers Junior Galette and Martez Wilson will rise to the challenge and possibly even emerge as upgrades at the position. Galette, in particular, gives the Saints their best chance of having a dynamic pass rusher on the edge of their new 3-4 defense.
But Haralson is an experienced veteran who should help stop the bleeding. He could potentially compete for a starting job — especially if Galette or Wilson isn’t healthy enough to play in Week 1. Or at the very least, Haralson should compete with fellow veteran newcomer Jay Richardson, among others, for a prominent role in the rotation.
Per ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas:
Jeff Duncan writes that the rookie class could be special, and that as many as 12 first-year players could make the roster. The Saints haven’t always given their rookies a lot of playing time in recent years. But that figures to change this season. Safety Kenny Vaccaro and receiver Kenny Stills look like they’ll be seeing a lot of action.
