It’s been a busy roster day for the Saints, as there have been more cuts for the team today. Larry Holder of NOLA.com reports,
The Saints released quarterback Seneca Wallace, along with veteran wide receivers Steve Breaston and Patrick Crayton. The team also waived cornerback A.J. Davis (injured), wide receiver Jarred Fayson, guard Ricky Henry, linebacker Chase Thomas and cornerback Dion Turner.
The team also placed defensive lineman Kenyon Coleman on injured reserve officially ending his season.
No doubt that the youthful talents of Nick Toon, Kenny Stills, Andy Tanner, and Preston Parker meant that Crayton, Fayson, & Breaston would be the odd men out. Breaston had a huge opportunity after he entered the lineup, and a deep bomb miss (similar to Kenny Stills in the preseason opener) against the Raiders didn’t help his case. Patrick Crayton was brought in merely as a camp body it would appear.
Perhaps the most surprising cut would be Chase Thomas, the undrafted linebacker from Stanford. He was reportedly a huge ‘steal’, and would fit in well to the 3-4 mold of Rob Ryan. However, with the play of Rufus Johnson & Eric Martin, it would make sense.
