The New Orleans Saints are dealing with some injuries in the wide receiver corps with Marques Colston sitting on the PUP list and Joe Morgan going down with an injury in practice.
As a result, the Saints are bringing in free agent wide receiver Laurent Robinson for a workout according to Larry Holder of NOLA.com:
Robinson, 28, spent last season with Jacksonville where he only caught 24 passes for 252 yards and no touchdowns. The six-year veteran had his biggest season with Dallas in 2011 with 58 catches for 858 yards and 11 TDs.
The 6-foot-2 speedy wideout reportedly worked out for Miami and San Francisco within the past week.
Don’t read too much into this signing. The Saints simply need more bodies to participate in training camp. Colston will be back sooner than later. We don’t know much about Morgan’s injury yet, but the team still has rookie speedster Kenny Stills to back him up if it’s serious.
As Holder mentioned, Robinson has been making the rounds visiting with a variety of teams. He’ll workout with the Saints but could find a better fit elsewhere.
Right now this is nothing more than the franchise doing its due diligence to prepare for preseason games.
