Saints Add WR Steve Breaston

It was reported earlier that the Saints were bringing in Free Agent WR Laurent Robinson for a workout, but now that all seems to be ancient history. As per Adam Schefter of ESPN:

Wide receiver Steve Breaston reached agreement on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints on Monday, a league source said.

Breaston, 29, had been dealing with knee inflammation earlier this offseason, but his agent, Eric Metz, told ESPN in March that MRIs performed on Breaston’s knee revealed nothing alarming and he is medically cleared to continue his NFL career.

Breaston isn’t exactly a long shot to make the active roster, but with the injuries piling up, and with his knee supposedly improving, he could definitely be one that could sneak in. That will depend solely on chemistry with Drew Brees, and of course, that knee.

Breaston’s best season came in 2008 with the Arizona Cardinals, where he caught 77 balls for 1,006 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
