After a much needed week 7 bye, the Saints will be back on the field against the Buffalo Bills in the Superdome and then against the New York Jets in MetLife Stadium. These two games are clearly must-win games if the Saints want to be real contenders in January.
Week 8 vs. Buffalo Bills
The Bills stunk last year. Nothing is going to change next season. Other than C.J. Spiller, Fred Jackson and (maybe) Steve Johnson…there isn’t much talent in this offense. We don’t know if first round pick E.J. Manuel will be under center in week 1. Oh, and QB2 is Kevin Kolb. Enough said. On defense Mario Williams didn’t have the expected impact, also because of the lack of talent around him. Safety Jayrus Byrd is holding out beacuse of his contract situation and rookie linebacker Kiko Alonso better step up and do something to regenerate the group of LBs.
Why the Saints can win this game: we’re the freakin’ Saints, for God’s sake!
Why the Saints can lose this game: coach Payton decides to play with Vilma at QB, Strief at WR and Brees at RB.
Week 9 @ New York Jets
Geno Smith is going to start for Jets. The problem is that he’s got nobody to throw to. Even Tebow is gone (lol just kidding, I am aware Tebow is a quarterback…yes). Chris Ivory is a good addition, an upgrade over Shon Greene without a doubt. If healthy he can provide a good running game for that offense. The defense isn’t bad but first round pick Dee Milliner won’t be able to fill Revis’ shoes – at least not in his first year in the NFL. Sheldon Richardson is another good piece up front and Quinton Coples should be more productive in his second year.
Why the Saints can win this game: even if they had an excellent defense against the pass last year, Tom Brady found ways to hurt them. And so will do Brees.
Why the Saints can lose this game: not gonna happen.
