Much has been said about New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram this year, but Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has had the final word with the start of Saints training camp.
Saints camp official kicked off Thursday with a set of press conferences. Loomis was first to take the stage and when asked about the offense next season, he specifically brought up Ingram (per NOLA.com):
Re: Mark Ingram. “I’d like to see touchdowns out of him,” Loomis joked….added that he wants him to stay healthy, first of all.
Loomis is expecting Mark Ingram to score a lot of TDs and have a healthy season this season
#Saints Loomis made reference to wanting to see RB Mark Ingram showcase his ‘versatility, which he doesn’t always get credit for. … I definitely get the feeling that Saints will try to use Ingram in more flexible, versatile role this year after he struggled to produce while stuck in more of the short-yardage/base offense role the last two years.
As you can see, Loomis has high expectations for Ingram, and this isn’t even taking into account what the coaching staff is expecting of him.
Ingram had a bit of a down year last season, but keep in mind he was part of a very deep rotation.
With these comments official, expect Ingram to play a much, much bigger role next season.
