New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Morgan was set to play a critical role within the confines of the team’s offense in 2013, but that may have just taken a massive hit thanks to a DWI arrest.
Morgan was allegedly asleep in his vehicle around midnight this past Saturday when an officer found him and made him take a field sobriety test. Michelle Hunter of NOLA.com was the first with the news:
But the trooper noticed Morgan seemed intoxicated, according to the report. He was swaying on his feet, smelled of alcohol and had unsteady balance and bloodshot eyes, the report said.
After Morgan performed poorly on a field sobriety test, the trooper arrested him and took him the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. Morgan’s blood alcohol content registered 0.218 percent, more than twice the 0.08-percent legal limit, the arrest report said.
A records check revealed that Morgan did not have a valid driver’s license, the report said. Morgan was booked Saturday at the Gretna jail. He was released the same day on a $1,150 bond.
It’s horrible news for Morgan, who was considered by many to be the starting slot receiver going into next season after the team did not bring back Devery Henderson.
In the world of the NFL, a first DWI is not the biggest offense, but it is one Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis could take very seriously given the team’s iffy status publicly as of late. The arrest could open up the door for rookie Kenny Stills, who has much of the same skills as Morgan.
One thing’s for sure—the arrest certainly isn’t helping Morgan in any way.
