Who Dat Dish: New Orleans Saints News, Rumors and Links for 4/25

The 2013 NFL draft is here. Months of speculation, rumors and more have finally subsided. The New Orleans Saints hold the No. 15 overall pick and in an instant will create months of speculation and rumors as to why they did what they did, and how they will perform as a result.

Today we take a gander at a few final mock drafts, how the Saints may act during the draft and more.

Let’s take a look.

ESPN Reports Several Teams Have Interest in Trading for Chris Ivory

Per Pat Yasinskas:

It has been reported widely that the New York Jets are interested in trading for running back Chris Ivory. General manager Mickey Loomis confirmed that, but also said several other teams are showing interest. Smart move by Loomis to make it known that more than one team is interested. That might help raise the value of what Ivory could bring in a trade.

ESPN Says Saints Must Focus on Defense

Per Pat Yasinskas:

Even with their free-agent signings the Saints still need more players to fit Ryan’s scheme as he tries to overhaul a defense that ranked last in the NFL last season.

There’s no question the Saints already have put some parts in place. But this defense is far from a finished product and this draft will be crucial. Even if there’s an offensive player the Saints really like at No. 15, I think they need to pass and get a defensive player who has a chance to be a difference maker.

Bleacher Report’s Will Osgood Released His Final Mock

Per Will Osgood:

First Round, Pick No. 15: Alex Okafor, DE/OLB, Texas

Thus it is Alex Okafor, the best pass-rusher, based on advanced metrics, in the entire 2013 draft. Of course it would be ideal for the Saints to trade down, acquire an extra pick or two, and make Okafor the selection later in the round.

That may or may not be realistic. That notion is also based on the idea that there’s such thing as reaching for a player. In my estimation, there is not. I would rather get my guy than take a chance he is not there at 25-ish.
