NFL draft speculation and free agency rumors continue to float around the New Orleans Saints as we continue to slowly plod our way toward the 2013 NFL draft where the Saints hold the No. 15 overall pick.
Today the national media are focusing in on the Saints’ preseason opponents, free-agency possibilities and more. Let’s take a brief look at what others are saying about your favorite team and highlight the best of the best from each.
Per the chat:
Steve A (Ventura CA): Pat, I’m a big Saints fan and I read you blog daily. Do you see Clabo pulling a Lofton and going over to the Saints? Even though he’s older and not great, I see him being a good fit because of his price tag and the fact that the Saints have solid guards to pair him up with, like Strief. Thoughts?
PY: I would not totally rule that out. Think he could fit there. Problem is the salary cap. Saints really have very little room to work with and I think some other teams are willing to pay Clabo decent money.
Of course the elephant in the room is the salary cap space the Saints currently have left. With just over $2 million, it’s not much to use on a free agent looking for a pay day or a long term contract with the team.
…Of course you can never count the Saints and the numerical mind of Loomis out all together. We have seen before that just when the club looked like it couldn’t do anymore, they always seem to find a way to stretch their dollar.
The names include:
Tackle Jared Gaither
Tackle Max Starks
Tackle Tyson Clabo
Defensive ends Dwight Freeney (6-1, 268) and John Abraham
Defensive lineman Richard Seymour
Defensive tackle Casey Hampton
Cornerback Antoine Winfield
Defensive back Charles Woodson
So far 89 percent of Saints fans have voted yes for Woodson — be sure to drop in and give your thoughts.
