The NFL has released the official 2013 preseason schedule for the New Orleans Saints. It’s safe to say there are not many surprises in the preseason schedule for what will amount to practice contests for the Saints.
The schedule is as follows, courtesy of NFLspinzone.com:
WEEK 1 – AUGUST 8-11
Kansas City at New Orleans
WEEK 2 – AUGUST 15-19
Oakland at New Orleans
WEEK 3 – AUGUST 22-25
New Orleans at Houston (FOX, 4 p.m. 8/25)
WEEK 4 – AUGUST 29-30
New Orleans at Miami
As you can see, the Saints are slated to have one primetime game against the Houston Texans in Week 3. It’s an interesting note because Week 3 is when NFL teams play their starters the most in preparation for the regular season. It will be a big test for Saints in more ways than one. There’s still a void at left tackle, which the elite J.J. Watt could exploit in the matchup if the team does not address the need properly.
Week 1 sees the Saints welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to town, as a new-look New Orleans secondary will be tested by new quarterback Alex Smith, who may be protected by an elite offensive line prospect considering the Chiefs hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.
New Orleans stays in the Dome and welcomes the Oakland Raiders to town in Week 2. Oakland holds the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and has a new quarterback in Matt Flynn.
Week 4 is typically when NFL teams rest their starters the most, but it will be a solid matchup nonetheless as the Saints travel to Miami to take on the revamped Dolphins squad.
The three contests not nationally televised will air locally on CST and WVUE FOX-8. You can also listen in on WWL 870 AM and 105.3 (per Saints Official Website).
