New Orleans Saints officially eliminated from playoffs on Sunday

Although the New Orleans Saints did their part in defeating the Dallas Cowboys in a 34-31 overtime win, they are no longer in contention for a coveted spot in the playoffs.

The Minnesota Vikings actually played the final trumpet for the Saints hopes when they came to play the Houston Texans and defeated them handily 21-6.  The Saints needed the Vikings to lose out for the rest of the season in order to beat them out for a Wild Card spot.

Of course it wouldn’t have mattered because the Saints also needed the Chicago Bears to lose out as well and they defeated the Arizona Cardinals 28-13.

The Saints have said that they won’t lay down for the rest of the season and we’ll see how true that is as they “play for pride” in their final game next Sunday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at 12:00 p.m. CST against the Carolina Panthers.
